MyGreenCorner.com raises the bar

MyGreenCorner.com has recently changed the submission options. Due submission of large amounts of low quality sites, we have decided to ask for a submission fee for any commercial site that wants to join our family. There is still a free option, but this is addressed solely to educational/governmental/nonprofit sites. Please note that this submission fee does not guarantee the approval of your site. This payment represents the tax for reviewing your site. Please note we will refund your payment if your site will not be approved, but only if it doesn’t break the submission rules.

Also, although some of the plans state that your link is permanent, we will review your link each year, to ensure that your site still complies with our quality terms. If your sites fails to do so, it will be removed with no prior notification. In the spirit of this idea, we have removed a lot of low quality sites from our directory in the past months, keeping only the cream, the best of the best.

Please note that we are trying to maintain a good collection of links, that is why we have adopted all this rules. We believe that this will satisfy both our visitors (by providing the best relevant sites out there) and our subscribers (by offering them a place in one of the most exquisite collections out there).

Now, to move on other things. About the recent post on article directories, I have tried to raise attention both on Google:

http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Web+Search/thread?tid=3734996837f96e4a&hl=en

and webmaster forums:

http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=1675032

but with little success. It seems that this topic interests little/none. Google seems to give more attention on doodles or Google Buzz release, and webmasters comply in the obscurity of their profiles and enjoy the possibility of not having any opinion.

“Lovers day” came (it was also my birthday!) and went. Best wishes to all lovers out there.

Vancouver is up, and it’s bloody already. I address my sincere thoughts to the family of Nomar Kumaritashvili.

Until next time,

Bbye

AIDS, as Acquired immune deficiency syndrome, is a disease that has gained a lot of power in the last years. Though governments, non-profit organizations as well as some big companies out there share the same battle line in the never ending battle with this disease, AIDS continues to grow.

Google.org has taken also this battle very seriously: http://www.google.org/world-aids-day-2009.html

I would like to address to all people that suffer of this disease. I have a friend that shares the same toughs with you. I know what you are dealing with. I wish researchers in this area to find a cure for you and I believe that better attention and respect would also help. I hope God will listen to our prayers and that soon mankind will eradicate this virus.

Meanwhile, I would also like to support AIDS fighters. I have added some valuable resources to our directory:

Best wishes,

So, briefly, M.J. died. I think he died from natural causes, no point in a big advertised investigation. Rarely I add a listing to MGC. I added MJ’s site today: http://www.mygreencorner.com/Michael-Jackson-161688.html

Great loss for humanity, great loss for fans, great loss for MJ’s family, for which my prays and blessings goes out today.

Plane crashed in Africa, they still digg for bodies, a little scary for those who travel by air around this time:  http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/07/02/AR2009070201409.html?hpid=moreheadlines

A little bonus from my side: don’t fly with Alitalia. I though I will dies from heart stroke before they crash (thank God they didn’t, and I got to write this post).

But the scariest and closest to me, train exploded in Italy killing 17: http://www.kansascity.com/934/gallery/1298024.html

Almost took the train to visit a friend that day.

Well, this was a bad week, I hope not for everybody.

Cheers

Hello.

After a lot of talk with several webmasters and SEO people, I decided to change the license used by wp themes submitted to our theme viewer.  Anybody that wishes to remove their themes as consequence to this decision can do so using their account. Although I don’t wan’t to discuss this decision, I will point some of the things that made me subscribe to this:

1. Theme users change the credentials anyway. It’s like in Wild Texas. Almost nobody is having respect for theme designers. I saw the copyright law broken so often, that I would need countless hours to report these infractions.

2.  GPL is better in this specific case. GPL allows users to modify themes as they please. The ones that feel good letting the credentials will do so anyway. By the way, I would like to thank to that kind people for their integrity.

3. Our theme viewer is getting spammed with casino and poker CC2.5 themes. Hopefully this will stop the spam wave.

4. Wordpress community subscribes to this: http://wordpress.org/extend/themes/

5. Google subscribes to this: http://weblogtoolscollection.com/archives/2007/04/12/on-sponsored-themes/

6. In long-term, this will ensure less sponsored themes and more quality (forced by our editorial standards).

I will send a newsletter to all designers in a day or 2. You have one week to comply with this situation. Any themes that will remain in our theme viewer after this date will be considered as GLP themes. Thank you for your understanding.

Cheers…

I noticed this several days ago. As I am trying to read things on wikipedia, I get “No response” error. I have to refresh the page for several time in order to access the article that interest me. Its funny that such a big site has problems like this. The incredible project that is wikipedia has incredible stats (see Alexa). Imagine if 8% of web surfers would browse your site, what would happen to your host :).

Anyway, I think this period is usually very full with school projects and stuff. A lot of people are reading articles in order to gather knowledge that would help in completing their projects. Wikipedia becomes more and more specialized on each topic. I was impressed and happy to read stuff about artificial intelligence that I am researching right now for my Ph.D thesis. I can almost see where this project is going - the ultimate knowledge base of man kind. I found several studies related to using Wikipedia as basis for artificial intelligence. Hopefully, this site will emerge into a entity that will offer full classification of any kind of human concept, making an AI-complete problem a reality. So I think the first step now is for them to buy better servers.
